Pagasa declares onset of northeast monsoon
Over the past few days, observations have shown that the high pressure area over East Asia is strengthening, resulting in a surge of northeasterly winds and lower air temperatures over extreme Northern Luzon. These meteorological patterns indicate the start of the northeast monsoon (amihan) season.
In the coming months, the amihan is expected to become dominant over most parts of the country, bringing cooler weather, episodes of cold surges, and rough sea conditions. Furthermore, the shear line, tropical cyclones, and Intertropical Convergence Zone may influence the country’s weather conditions during the season.
The Philippine Atmospheric. Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) will continue to monitor the country's weather and climatic conditions, especially with the ongoing El Niño, becoming very strong before the end of this year. Meanwhile, the public and all concerned agencies are advised to monitor relevant Pagasa information regularly. Pagasa
