Debris from a Chinese rocket may hit the waters of Northern Luzon, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) warned on Tuesday.

The PCG identified two possible drop zones which include the area "approximately 41 nautical miles from Burgos, Ilocos Norte, and 62 nautical miles from Dalupiri Island, Cagayan" and another site which is "approximately 69 nautical miles from Burgos, Ilocos Norte, and 81 nautical miles from Dalupiri Island, Cagayan."

The PCG issued a maritime advisory to warn vessels that debris from a Long March 7A rocket by the People’s Republic of China may hit the drop zones on Wednesday.

"The launch is scheduled from Wenchang, Hainan, between 12:08 am and 1:12 am (Philippine Standard Time) tomorrow, May 27, 2026," it stated.

"The PCG advises fisherfolk, small vessel operators, and mariners to avoid the identified areas during the launch window and to remain alert for any floating debris or suspicious objects at sea," the advisory added.

The PCG also advised the public "not to approach or retrieve any suspected rocket debris due to possible hazardous materials."

"Any sighting of floating objects or debris should be immediately reported to the nearest PCG station or local authorities for proper assessment and handling," it stated. Robina Asido/PHS
