The start of the northeast monsoon or Amihan season is expected to be declared before the end of the month, the state weather bureau said Tuesday.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Ana Liza Solis, chief of the Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (Pagasa) said the Amihan season is nearing.

"For now, the Amihan season is near. We are at the transition, and usually the normal onset is between October 22 to 30," she said.

"That is the normal onset of Amihan based on the historical pronouncements of the onset. So it's possible it may happen during that time" she added.

Northeast monsoon is where cold winds from the northeast bring rains over the eastern side of the country. Robina Asido/PHS
