The House prosecution on Monday expressed satisfaction with its presentation of evidence against Vice President Sara Duterte under Article II of her impeachment case, which involves allegations of unexplained wealth and failure to fully disclose assets.

“We have finished with the presentation of our Article II, and from our perspective, I am very happy that we have done the job that we set out to do,” House prosecutor Akbayan Rep. Chel Diokno said at a post-trial press briefing.

Diokno made the statement after forensic accounting expert Alexander Cabrera, the prosecution’s final witness in the entire impeachment case, completed his testimony before the Senate impeachment court.

Cabrera’s report identified P817.87 million in alleged unexplained wealth involving Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, from 2022 to 2025.

During Monday’s proceedings, Cabrera also said the amount could reach P1.5 billion under less conservative assumptions, without counting the same amounts twice.

The prosecution had earlier presented bank executives, insurance company representatives and government officials to support its allegations concerning Duterte’s financial transactions, assets and business interests.

Diokno said the court is expected to clarify Tuesday the remaining procedures before the prosecution formally rests its case.

He acknowledged that some issues involving other impeachment articles remained unresolved, including the possibility of calling Duterte to testify.

Diokno explained that once the prosecution rests, the next step would ordinarily be the formal offer of evidence, followed by the defense’s response and the court’s ruling.

The prosecution has also informed the court of its intention to withdraw Article III, which involves bribery, to avoid unnecessarily prolonging the trial.

Diokno said there had been no indication of changes to the announced schedule, with hearings set to continue until Thursday, October 15, before a break until November 9. House Public Communications Bureau
