Despite impeachment trial, Duterte leads 2028 presidential race according to survey
Vice President Sara Duterte and her father's long-time personal aide Senator Christopher Go lead the presidential and vice-presidential preference survey by Pulse Asia despite an ongoing Senate impeachment trial against her.
A nationwide survey conducted from September 17 to 24 shows 50 percent or half of Filipino adults would vote for Duterte if she ran against Naga City Mayor Maria Leonor Robredo, who has 26 percent, Senator Raffy Tulfo, who has 12 percent , Senator Risa Hontiveros with three percent, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon with one percent each.
The Senate has been conducting an impeachment trial against her since July 6. The House prosecution team said they are satisfied with the presentation of evidence against Duterte as they presented their final witness on the charge on unexplained wealth.
The survey showed Duterte still got the highest votes in five different sets which include three-way race and one-on-one presidential scenarios.
Out of seven possible candidates for vice-president in the May 2028 national elections, the survey stated that Go would emerge as the winner with the support of 31 percent of Filipino adults.
Sharing second place are Senators Robin Padilla and Bam Aquino (19 percent and 17 percent, respectively) while former Senator Grace Poe occupies third place (14 percent).
In fourth place is Senator Tulfo (10 percent), followed by Senator Francis Pangilinan (3 percent) and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicolas Torre III (0.3 percent). Robina Asido/PHS
