Floods literally swamped many places in Metro Manila as a red rainfall warning was raised over the metropolois and nearby provinces due to the enhanced southwest monsoon on Monday.

Many roads in the National Capital Region (NCR) were rendered impassable to motorists due to knee deep to waist deep floods.

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the monsoon dumped 201.7 millimeters of rain in five hours as of 5 pm. This trigerred traffic in some parts of EDSA.

As of 4 pm, the MMDA reported that at least 11 roads in the City of Manila were flooded including Rizal Ave. cor. Pampanga St. and Abad Santos Ave. cor. Yuseco St. which are not passable to "all kinds of vehicles" due to knee deep flooding.

The Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (DRRMD) also reported that the area of T.M. Kalaw from Maria Orosa to Taft and R. Papa near LRT station is not passable as waters were waist deep.

At least 13 areas in Quezon City, seven in Malabon, one in Mandaluyong, Taguig, Marikina, Makati, and Caloocan experienced floods. Parts of Quezon experienced waist deep floods, especially at an area near a big university.

Meanwhile, some residents in Barangay Dela Paz, Pasig City were evacuated due to waist deep flood.

Build up of passengers were reported in Ortigas, Boni, Guadalupe, Buendia, Ayala, Magallanes at Taft Avenue stations of MRT-3 as of 4:20 pm.

After placing its disaster relief management office to red alert status due to the effect of the enhanced southwest monsoon, the local government of Manila also deployed vehicles in different parts of the city to provide free rides for the stranded passengers.

As of 5 pm, the state weather bureau reported that Metro Manila will experience 50 to 100 rainfall from Monday up to Wednesday.

Aside from Metro Manila other areas that will experience the same amount of rainfall from Monday to Tuesday afternoon include Ilocos Sur, Abra, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro and Antique. Robina Asido/PHS
