PCG welcomes Japanese parliamentary delegation to strengthen maritime cooperation
Philippine Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, welcomes the Japanese Parliamentary delegation led by Fujita Fumitake, co-representative of the Japan Innovation Party aboard BRP Teresa Magbabua on August 4.
The visit highlighted the longstanding partnership between the PCG and Japan.
In his remarks, Gavan expressed the PCG’s appreciation for Japan’s continued support through vessel acquisition, capacity-building initiatives, technical assistance, and human resource development, which have contributed to enhancing the Coast Guard’s operational capabilities. He likewise underscored the importance of dialogue, mutual trust, and adherence to international law in promoting peace and stability at sea.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on maritime cooperation and other matters of mutual interest. Hon. Fujita emphasized the importance of further strengthening the partnership between Japan and the Philippines and noted that the visit formed part of ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation.
Following the meeting, the delegation toured BRP Teresa Magbanua, where they were introduced to the vessel and its capabilities.
The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Philippines and Japan to further strengthen maritime cooperation under the Philippines–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Philippine Coast Guard
