A magnitude 5.4 earthquake that struck the province of Occidental Mindoro was felt in some cities in Metro Manila on Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Technology (Phivolcs) said.

The tremor that was tectonic in origin and has a depth of 14 km was recorded 13km Southwest of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro around 10:38 pm.

Based on the Phivolcs report, Intensity V was recorded over Mamburao in Occidental Mindoro; City of Calapan, Naujan, Puerto Galera, San Teodoro, and Victoria in Oriental Mindoro while Intensity IV in Taal, Batangas; Abra De Ilog, and Sablayan in Occidental Mindoro.

Intensity III was also felt in Quezon City; Batangas City in Batangas; General Trias in Cavite; and San Pedro in Laguna and Intensity II over Paranaque City; Santa Cruz in Laguna and Guinayangan in Quezon.

No damage is expected but aftershocks may occur following the magnitude 5.4 quake. Robina Asido/PHS
