Police, military lower alert level after INC ends rally
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) downgraded its alert status on Friday after the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) ended its rally in Manila on Thursday night.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines also lowered its alert level after the end of the INC rally, its spokesperson said.
In a message to the Philippines Shimbun, Major Hazel Asilo, NCRPO spokesperson, said the full alert status was lowered to "heightened alert effective 12:01 am, July 3."
The NCRPO raised the full alert status on Tuesday morning after the religious group started their surprise rally in front of the People's Power Monument in EDSA, Quezon City.
Edwil Zabala, INC spokesperson, announced the end of the rally on Thursday night.
“We believe that we have clearly conveyed our message to the concerned officials. We hope for God for justice to prevail in this country and not for those who bend the law for their own benefit,” he said.
“This is where we end our peaceful rally. I hope that you will get home the same way you arrived here peacefully,” Zabala added.
The first two days of the rally were held in front of People's Power Monument in EDSA before the group transferred to Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila on the 3rd day after the local government of Quezon City did not extend their permit to continue their protest at the monument.
