The commercial flight operations at the General Santos International Airport resumed on Monday, a week after the magnitude 7.8 earthquake rocked Sarangani and its surrounding provinces.

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reported that the passengers of Flight 5J997 have successfully landed and disembarked at General Santos Airport around 7 am.

The resumption of commercial flight operation follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to immediately fast track repair works at the airport following last week’s earthquake, ensuring the safety, convenience, and uninterrupted travel of passengers.

Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said the commercial flight operation at the General Santos Airport resumed after the completion of its safety assessment.

The CAAP has also conducted coordination meetings with airline operators, airport stakeholders, and government agencies to ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of General Santos Airport.

Passengers are advised to coordinate directly with their respective airlines regarding flight schedules and travel arrangements. Robina Asido/PHS
