The Philippine government is verifying reports on the possible structure spotted in Scarborough Shoal or Bajo De Masinloc (BDM), a military spokesman said Tuesday.

"There was a report on a possible structure or equipment on BDM. This is currently being validated by different government agencies. At the appropriate time, this will be answered by the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea," Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesman for the West Philippine Sea, retired Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad told reporters in a briefing in Camp Aguinaldo.

"We get a lot of reports on the maritime domain to include even what's happening on land when it comes to defense and security of the country. All these reports are subjected to a stringent validation process. Before we release any news to the public, everything is validated. That includes this particular report on a possible equipment or structure or whatever that was reportedly sighted on Bajo de Masinloc," he added.

In an interview on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore last weekend, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. said there is "raw information" on the alleged structure sighted in Scarborough Shoal.

"There is raw information, actually I am saying Bajo De Masinloc is a dynamic area. Although the developments are still small, they are already being monitored," the Defense chief said.

When asked if the Philippines has sought the help of its allied countries to validate the sighting of an alleged structure in Scarborough Shoal, Trinidad said: "rest assured that when we do confirmation or validation, we are doing this to all possible sources."

In its X (formerly Twitter) account, SeaLight, a maritime research and analysis organization posted on Tuesday, a commercial satellite imagery showing possible structure in Scarborough Shoal.

It noted that a satellite imagery captured on May 28, 2026 shows "a small, reflective object clearly distinguishable on the reef flat near the lagoon entrance" located "at the tip of the southern reef rim" of the shoal.

"Based on the resolution of the commercial imagery and the object’s appearance relative to the surrounding reef, we assess that it is (conservatively) less than 10 meters in diameter," it stated.

"Its location is at or near the lagoon entrance, a sensitive chokepoint where access has previously been controlled by vessels and floating barriers," it added. Robina Asido/PHS
