Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Kitagawa Katsuro wished Binibining Pilipinas International Katrina Anne Johnson the "best of luck" as she represents the Philippines in the 2026 Miss International beauty pageant in Japan next month.

Kitagawa and his wife welcomed Johnson at their residence in Makati City during a courtesy call on Friday.

"It is a great honor to meet someone who embodies the hopes and pride of the Philippines," the Ambassador told Johnson.

"I'd like to wish you the very best of luck, as you prepare to embark on your journey in Japan," he added.

Johnson, who will represent the Philippines in the 64th Miss International pageant scheduled at the Tokyo Dome City Hall on November 25 will leave the country on November 7. She is expected to return on December 5.

In an interview with reporters, Johnson expressed how honored she is to meet Kitagawa noting that she also viewed international beauty queens as "informal ambassadors."

"It's such an honor to be able to meet someone who has that wealthy of a diplomatic background. And if I'm being honest, I've always viewed beauty queens and people in pageantry, women in pageantry as kind of informal ambassadors," Johnson said.

"Most especially when it comes to Miss International, I really feel like they tried their best to advocate for cultural exchange. So, um, to hear his insights, of course, it just kind of makes me feel like it reminds you that diplomacy isn't necessarily about governments, but it's also at its heart. about its people," she added.

Kitagawa also conveyed his hopes that Johnson will take her "wonderful experiences back home as pasalubong, sharing the beauty and charm of Japan with the Filipino peoples."

"I hope your visit will leave you with unforgettable memories and deeper appreciation of Japanese culture and its people," he said.

"Your role as a Philippine representative, at one of the world's most prestigious, beauty patients, becomes even more meaningful. Your voice has the power to inspire positive changes that last beyond the final approach.
