Former President Duterte appears in ICC for the first time since March 2025 arrest

Former President Rodrigo Duterte appeared in the International Criminal Court at The Hague for the first time on Wednesday to attend the third status conference on alleged crimes against humanity.
Duterte was arrested on March 2025 on a warrant regarding his reported role in the the war on drugs when he was mayor of Davao City and when he was president from 2016 to 2024.
He is accused of murder and attempted murder. The 81-year-old Duterte has denied these allegations.
His former lawyers have raised medical issues on Duterte but the court's judges made a ruling in January that he is fit to stand trial.
The hearing was to tackle disclosure of evidence and lay down a timetable for Duterte's trial which starts in November. PHS
