Southwest monsoon to continue bringing rains

The southwest monsoon is forecast to bring rains over eight provinces until Thursday.

In its latest forecast, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Zambales and Bataan will experience 50 to 100 mm of rainfall, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The same intensity of rain is expected in Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas and Occidental Mindoro until Friday.

Occidental Mindoro will have 100 to 200 mm rain while Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro and Antique will also experience 50 to 100 mm rainfall until Saturday afternoon.

In its latest data, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) recorded 39 deaths, 20 injured and three others remain missing due to the combined effect of tropical storms ''Luis'', ''Maymay'', ''Neneng'' and the enhanced southwest monsoon.

A total of 178 areas were under state of calamity with 2.7 million families and 9.4 million persons affected by the weather disturbances.
