President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said a flood control master plan, which was never been executed for decades, is finally being implemented.

Speaking after inspecting two main bridges which collapsed due to strong currents from monsoon rains in Tarlac City, Marcos said: “We already have a master plan; it’s just never been executed.”

Former Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson said the Aquino administration craft a flood control masterplan which was approved by the National Economic and Development Authority in 2012. He said the plan was never pursued.

No details available on the master plan but the Metro Manila Development Authority said it completed a feasibility study that identifies 39 sites for flood-catchment projects as part of the government's efforts to address flooding in Metro Manila.

Marcos went on a day-long inspection of flood-hit areas in Central Luzon. He began by going to Tarlac in the morning where he inspected affected areas by air before going to the two damaged bridges in Tarlac City.

He proceeded to Zambales to inspect communities affected by floods and check the government's response. He then left for Pampanga, which has been hard hit. PHS
