Following massive floods due to the enhanced southwest monsoon, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced the government's project to install 13 additional pumping stations in and around the metro.

"We are installing additional pumping stations and those pumping stations (will be) in and around Manila," Marcos told reporters in an interview after the inspection of the Tripa de Gallina Pumping Station in Pasay City on Thursday.

"I think all together we will have 13 additional pumping stations which should have emplace by the end of this year or the beginning of next year most of them should be in place already," he added.

However, Marcos noted that the additional pumping station will still not address the country's problem in garbage disposal.

"That is why we are here trying to find ways to dispose of the garbage in an environmentally friendly way. That’s why they are creating compost. None of the organic waste goes to waste,” he said.

The government declared the suspension of classes and work in government schools and offices from Monday to Thursday due to the heavy rainfall that caused widespread flooding in the regions affected by Southwest Monsoon including Metro Manila.

The southwest monsoon was enhanced by Tropical Cyclone ''Neneng'' that was last spotted at 480 km north of Itbayat, Batanes.
