An alleged improvised explosive device (IED) explosion occurred near the entrance of the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Manila early Monday some ten hours before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr delivers his State of the Nation Address.

No casualties were reported in the explosion along Padre Faura Street in Ermita around 12:17 am.

"There are no reported casualties, and the Philippine National Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (PNP-EOD) Unit was immediately notified and responded to conduct a technical examination," the agency stated. "Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, nature, and circumstances surrounding the explosion," it added.

Another suspected improvised bomb was discovered about 150 meters in one of the gates in the Senate in the morning. Senate Sergeant at Arms chief Alfred Corpus said the suspected IED contained a battery, clamp and brown power. Forensic experts are finding out if the package is a real IED.

Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian said he condemns ''in the strongest terms this apparent attempt to sow fear near the Senate on the very day our institutions gather for the State of the Nation Address.''

The agency assures the public that the "situation is currently under control, and the DOJ compound remains secure."
