Pump prices, especially diesel which is used by public transport and kerosene which some families for cooking, will rise by double digits on Tuesday, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said in a press conference on Monday.

Garin said diesel will go up by P10.98 per liter, kerosene by P11.778 per liter and gasoline by P3.65 per liter.

''Heightened tensions and developments in the Middle East are affecting global markets, '' said Garin. The US renewed its bombing of Iran after talks broke down.

Upon the orders of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the government will continue the fuel subsidy program for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators amid looming increases in oil prices.

“Patuloy pa rin iyong fuel subsidy kasi nandiyan naman iyan sa budget ng 2025 GAA,” Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said during a Palace press briefing.

“So, sa budget for fuel subsidy for PUV drivers and operators ay may P2.5 billion katulad ng sinabi natin na manggagaling sa 2025 Continuing Fund at ang Fuel Subsidy Program or Pantawid Pasada Program ay tuluy-tuloy pa rin,” she noted.

Castro clarified that the government’s service contracting program has already been fully implemented and that no additional funds have been allocated for it.

The Palace Press Officer said that Marcos has directed all concerned agencies, particularly the Department of Energy (DOE), to continue monitoring the fuel situation and implementing measures to help stabilize fuel prices amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. PHS-Presidential News Desk
