Police in NCR on full alert due to Senate impeachment trial
Philippine National Police (PNP) units in the National Capital Region (NCR) have been placed on full alert status ahead of the Senate impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday.
"The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has strengthened its security posture and placed all concerned units under full alert status effective 5 pm of July 5, 2026, to ensure full operational readiness for scheduled Senate activities in Pasay City and other emerging security considerations within Metro Manila," NCRPO said in a statement on Monday.
"This proactive measure aims to maintain continuous security coverage, rapid response capability, and stable peace and order amid anticipated movements and possible legal developments," it added.
The NCRPO deployed around 6,000 personnel "under a coordinated security framework covering the Senate complex, perimeter zones, access routes, and identified convergence areas."
"The deployment ensures sustained police visibility, orderly crowd and traffic management, and immediate operational response should any situation require intervention," it stated.
"Civil Disturbance Management units, tactical response teams, mobile patrol elements, investigators, SOCO personnel, EOD/K9 handlers, drone operators, medical responders, and arresting units are positioned to reinforce on‑ground operations and provide swift support across all contingencies," it added.
Due to the impeachment trial the local government of Pasay City temporarily closed the entire stretch of Diokno Blvd. from Seaside Blvd. to Atang Dela Rama St.
"The trial will last for seven to eight months, every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 7 am to 7pm, during which the closure of the said roads will be implemented," it stated.
"Motorists are advised to use Macapagal Blvd. as an alternate route or choose other roads to avoid inconvenience," it added. Robina Asido/PHS
