Marcos to visit Russia to attend ASEAN-Russia commemorative summit
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will visit Russia to attend Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - Russia Commemorative Summit this month, a Palace official announced on Thursday.
The ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit is a high-level diplomatic gathering between the leaders of the ASEAN and the Russian Federation.
In a press briefing, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro said the summit marks the 35th anniversary of the ASEAN and Russia relations.
"According to the (Department of Foreign Affairs) DFA, the president will travel to Kazan in Russia from June 17 to 18, to attend the ASEAN - Russia Commemorative Summit, " she said.
"Russia is an ASEAN dialogue partner, and as ASEAN Chair, the Philippines will lead the review on the progress of cooperation and relationship with Russia. This will also include discussions on the next steps to further deepen and expand the ties between the Philippines, Russia and the ASEAN," she added.
Amid the oil crisis brought by the conflict in the Middle East, Castro said Energy Secretary Sharon Garin is planning to discuss "possible options on energy transition and fuel diversification" as well as acquisition of oil with the Ambassador of Russia to the Philippines. Robina Asido/PHS
