Philippines to deploy BRP Gabriela Silang to Hawaii warfare exercise
The Philippines will deploy its Coast Guard offshore patrol vessel for the first time to join the world's largest international maritime warfare exercise.
The Philippine Coast Guard will deploy BRP Gabriela Silang to the Rim of the Pacific exercise from June 24 to July 21 in Hawaii.
The Philippine Navy will also deploy its guided-missile frigate with an anti-submarine helicopter in the exercise.
"Representing the PN in the exercise is BRP Miguel Malvar, and its personnel," Navy spokesperson Captain Marissa Martinez said.
The AW-159 anti-submarine helicopter will also join the drill onboard BRP Miguel Malvar.
The send -off ceremonies for the participating vessels and its crew will be held on June 4.
According to the United States Pacific Fleet, the biennial Rim of the Pacific exercise will bring 31 nations in and around the Hawaiian Islands for the drills that "will feature a multinational force of approximately 40 surface ships, 5 submarines, 140 aircraft and more than 25,000 personnel."
