Over 100,000 people, majority in Guinobatan town, were displaced following the series of volcanic activities that generated a massive volume of ashfall from Mayon Volcano over the weekend.

According to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in the Bicol Region, early evacuation protocols were implemented to ensure that communities within the 6 km Permanent Danger Zone were evacuated amid the increasing unrest of the volcano.

Latest report shows that a total of 30,522 families or 102,406 persons, have been affected across 87 barangays in the region.

"Of these, 1,438 families (333 families were evacuated last May 2) or 5,440 persons, are currently inside evacuation centers, while 26 families or 85 persons, are being assisted outside evacuation centers," said OCD.

The Albay Provincial Information Office reported on Monday that 41 barangays or 91,225 individuals, in Guinobatan were affected by the ashfall after a lava flow-collapse-fed pyroclastic density current was reported over the weekend.

The OCD noted that all the assistance, services, and needs of the evacuees are being continuously provided by the local government units, together with the national agencies of the government.

As of Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded five volcanic earthquakes including four volcanic tremors, 411 rockfall and four pyroclastic density current signals from Mayon Volcano, which remains under Alert Level 3. Robina Asido/PHS
