The Department of Justice (DOJ) said it is reviewing the petition for extradition from the United States for Apollo Quiboloy, a pastor who was indicted by a Los Angeles court for alleged sex trafficking, among other crimes, in 2021.

Chief State Prosecutor Dennis Arvin Chan said in a briefing on Thursday that the extradition request also included two persons who were not named.

''We are reviewing the submissions made by the United States government to ensure its compliance with the Philippines-US Extradition Treaty and the Philippine Extradition Law,'' he said.

''We are working on the evaluation as fast as we can but making sure we are not cutting any corners here. We to make that everything is compliant with the Philippine Extradition Law as well as with the treaty with the United States,'' Chan added.

He refused ''to give any specific or fixed time table.'' ''We understand that this is an issue of national interest. We will just try to hasten our action on this because I know that the public is keenly and closely monitoring the development.''

Once all requirements will be met for Quiboloy's extradition, the request for extradition will be filed before a regional trial court, said Chan.

Quiboloy was arrested in Davao City on Sept. 2024 by Philippine authorities on an arrest warrant by local courts. He is facing human trafficking charges and child abuse before the regional trial courts in Davao and Pasig, where he is detained.

Last week, the Department of Foreign Affairs received the extradition request from the US. It sent request to the Department of Justice.
