The Chinese Embassy denied on Monday the accusation that China had funneled funds to a particular political faction in the Philippines.

In a statement, Chinese Embassy spokesperson Ji Lingpeng claimed that the accusation is "fabricated" and "false narrative".

"We strongly condemn and firmly oppose such malicious rhetoric and actions. We urge the relevant individuals in the Philippines to stop political manipulation and not to drag Philippine domestic politics into China-Philippines relations," he said.

"Attempts to achieve personal political gains by smearing and discrediting China and harming China's interests and image are doomed to fail, and will ultimately undermine the interests of the Philippines and its people," he added.

The statement was issued after former senator Antonio Trillanes IV said that a company owned by Manases Carpio, the husband of Vice President Sara Duterte, received more than P319 million from China-linked sources.

Trillanes also accused members of the Duterte family of receiving millions of pesos in manager’s checks from a man he identified as a Davao drug lord and also linked to Duterte a foundation that allegedly received P150 million from the Chinese Embassy.

In Monday's Senate impeachment trial of Vice President Duterte, a business said to be linked to her had transactions with companies in China, including a remittance of over P5.6 million, Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) Secretariat Executive Director Ronel Buenaventura said on Monday.

Amid the allegations, Ji noted that "the Chinese Embassy will take all necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate interests and dignity." Robina Asido/PHS
