Four alleged Japanese fugitives deported Tuesday
Four alleged Japanese fugitives arrested by Philippine authorities due to alleged fraud related cases in Japan were deported on Tuesday, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported on Wednesday.
The four Japanese were escorted by personnel of the Japan National Police Agency (JNPA) when they were flown aboard a Japan Airlines flight from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.
The Bureau identified two as Takumi Oi, 31, and Sho Okada, 27, who were arrested by immigration authorities in Pasay City on April 28, 2026, after verification that they were subjects of outstanding warrants issued by the Kokura Summary Court in Japan.
"The two were reportedly involved in a scheme in which they impersonated law enforcement officers to facilitate financial fraud," the BI said.
The other two deportees identified as Yuki Sugita, 39, and Yuta Takahashi, 45, who were apprehended by the BI agents at Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Matabungkay, last April 8, 2026 were likewise found to be subjects of outstanding warrants issued by the Omiya Summary Court in Japan.
BI records showed that the four Japanese fugitives had overstayed after failing to extend their authorized period of stay in the Philippines.
"All four were covered by separate summary deportation orders issued by the BI and were subsequently turned over to Japanese authorities for appropriate legal action," it stated.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said it will continue to strengthen coordination with our international law enforcement counterparts to ensure that those wanted for serious offenses are properly identified and dealt with in accordance with Philippine immigration laws. Robina Asido/PHS
