Three students, including the shooter died while six others were wounded in another shooting incident inside a school in South Cotabato on Friday.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. said three students, including the shooter, died while six were injured. They were immediately rushed to different hospitals for treatment.

"As of 4:10 pm with regard to the shooting incident in Banga National High School, we now confirm three fatalities, they are 14 year-old students, two males and one female including the gunman," he said.

Tamayo said another student was also hospitalized after passing out due to hyperventilation.

Based on initial investigation, Tamayo said the shooter is a member of a social media platform called "True Crime Community".

Tamayo, who expressed concern over the social media platform that allegedly indoctrinated and tasked the students to kill, urged the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and other national government agencies to ''take down'' the online platform.

"They have a social platform that they use and where they entice people to join. This is what they call the True Crime Community, where indoctrination takes place and tasks are given, including carrying out a school shooting and community shooting. So that is what happened, and based on our investigation, almost all school shootings worldwide are members of this kind of social platform or internet platform used by our fellow citizens," he said.

"As governor, I am calling on the DICT to see if it is possible to take down this website or any related website or platform, and of course, cybercrime should also focus on this because it is really alarming," he added.

In a statement issued on Friday, the DICT did not if it will follow the governor's request to take action on the social platform. But it strongly condemned the shooting incident.

"Violence in and around educational institutions has no place in our communities, and the safety and protection of our learners, educators, and school personnel must remain a paramount concern," it stated.

"The DICT stands ready to provide assistance within its mandate and coordinate with concerned agencies should communications or technical support be needed," it added. Robina Asido/PHS
