The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said it is ready for possible outbreak of post election violence following the peaceful conduct of the first Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary poll.

In an interview with reporters, Col. Francel Padilla, Armed Forces of the Philippine (AFP) spokesperson, said military presence in BARMM will continue even after the election.

At least three persons were killed and around 15 injured as the region's landmark election took place on Monday.

"We will not be speculating on the things that may happen. Rest assured that we have been preparing for this incident(s) and in coordination with all other agencies when we are prepared to deploy accordingly," Padilla said.

"The election may be over, but our commitment to our citizens, especially in BARMM, will continue. So, our job is to help protect the gains of the democratic process and support a peaceful transition beyond election day," she added.

Padilla said the military will only end their election related security operation based on the decision of the Commission on Election (Comelec).

"We are ready to respond to the validated security requirements and help maintain peace and stability in the communities," she said.

"So, throughout all of this process, the posture of the AFP remains the same. Professional, impartial, and politically neutral," Padilla noted.

In an interview at Camp General Gonzalo H. Siongco in Barangay Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, Comelec chairman Erwin Garcia expressed his gratitude to security forces, including the Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, especially the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) under Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento for pacifying the groups involved in the peace process with the government.

Garcia said despite the reported violent incidents related to the election, at least 1.9 million voters were able to exercise their rights to suffrage.

"We are glad that the voter turnout is very high, currently averaging almost 80 to 81 percent, just as we predicted," he said.

"This means that despite a few incidents of violence, our fellow countrymen were not deterred from voting. Even immediately after an incident, they still voted, because an 80 percent voter turnout is almost equivalent to the more or less 1.9 million voters who cast their votes," he added.
