The body of one of the five missing occupants of a vehicle that fell into a river in Tarlac was recovered on Monday, the Philippine Coast Guard reported on Tuesday.

Based on an initial report, the vehicle carrying five people fell into the river after a portion of Agana Bridge collapsed Saturday night while the province was hit by heavy rains due to the southwest monsoon.

"The body was recovered in the waters off Barangay Pugaro, Dagupan City, Pangasinan, yesterday, August 31, 2026," the PCG stated

"Tarlac City Mayor Susan Yap later confirmed that the recovered individual was one of the victims of the Agana Bridge incident," it added.

The PCG is conducting search and rescue operations for the three individuals who remain missing as one was rescued shortly after the incident.

It noted that the response teams were searching the Tarlac River and downstream areas in coordination with concerned authorities.

Palace Press Officer and Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon the repair at Agana Bridge is ongoing while motorists are temporarily using a Bailey Bridge to cross the area.
