Strong typhoon enters Philippine Area of Responsibility

Typhoon ''Saudel'' entered the Philippine area of responsibility with strong winds and was named ''Obet'' by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Monday.

As of 5 pm, ''Obet'' was last spotted at 1,350 km east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.

''Obet'', with maximum sustained winds of 165 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 205 kph was moving west northwestward at speed of 30 kph. It is the third weather disturbance to affect the country this month.

Some areas in Bulacan and Pampanga have been to recover from last week's monsoon rains spurred by Tropical Depression ''Maymay''.

The typhoon is expected to enhance the Southwest monsoon that will bring strong to gale-force gusts over most of Luzon and Visayas, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi Tawi, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sultan Kudarat, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental on Tuesday.

The province of Zambales will also experience 50 to 100 rainfall from Tuesday afternoon up to Thursday while other provinces including Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro will have the same amount of rainfall from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday. Robina Asido/PHS
