Deaths due to combined effect of tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay and the enhanced southwest monsoon rose to 13 with nine missing as many parts of Luzon including Metro Manila were battered with rains from Friday to Sunday,

Office of Civil Defense (OCD) deputy spokesperson Diego Agustin Mariano said the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council is validating the death of 13 individuals, seven in Benguet, three in Rizal, and three from Batangas.

Eight of the nine missing individuals were from Benguet and another one from Batangas while 14 people were also injured, 12 of them are from Benguet, one from Rizal and another one from Cavite.

The government ordered its employees to work from home in Metro Manila and affected areas. The impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte was put off for Tuesday.

Rains of between 50 to 100 millimeters are expected on Tuesday in Metro Manila, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite and Batangas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Rains of between 100 to 200 millimeters, are forecast in Zambales, Bataan and Occidental Mindoro.

As of 8 am of the same day, the Department of Agriculture recorded P135.3 million worth of losses due to the weather disturbances.

In a Cabinet meeting, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr ordered government agencies to help affected areas quickly as weather forecasts point to lesser rain in the next few days.

A total of 6,010 farmers with 4,516 hectares (ha) of agricultural areas and 4,465 metric tons (MT) of volume of production were also affected.

The affected commodities include rice, corn, high value crops, livestock, and infrastructure, machineries and equipment.

In a Palace briefing on Monday, Laurence Mina, OCD Deputy Administrator for Operations said as of 10 am, 384,520 families or 1,310,000 individuals were affected in regions of Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula.

"Of these, 16,130 families or 58,650 persons or individuals were served inside 624 evacuation centers. While there are 11,360 families or 39,290 individuals are being served outside evacuation centers," he said.

"There are 367 houses. from among these damaged houses, 27 are totally damaged, and there are 340 partially damaged. These are in Region 1 ((Ilocos), Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Region 6 (West Visayas)," he added. Robina Asido/PHS
