Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1 was raised over eight areas in Luzon by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) due to Tropical Depression ''Luis'' that was slightly enhanced while moving over the coastal waters of Divilacan, Isabela.

As of 5 pm, ''Luis'' with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph was last spotted over the coastal waters of Divilican while moving northwestward at the speed of 20 kph.

For Metro Manila, rains of between 50 millimeters and 100 millimeters are forecast Monday night to Tuesday afternoon due to the combined effects of ''Luis'' and the southwest monsoon. This will continue from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon due to the enhanced southwest monsoon, Pagasa said.

The areas placed under wind signal number 1 includes "the central and eastern portions of Cagayan (Enrile, Tuguegarao City, Peñablanca, Piat, Santo Niño, Camalaniugan, Tuao, Lal-Lo, Gonzaga, Alcala, Amulung, Santa Teresita, Baggao, Buguey, Solana, Rizal, Santa Ana, Gattaran, Iguig, Lasam, Aparri, Ballesteros, Abulug, Allacapan, Pamplona) including Babuyan Islands (Camiguin Is., Fuga Is., Didicas Is.), Isabela, Quirino, the eastern and southern portions of Apayao (Flora, Santa Marcela, Conner, Pudtol, Luna), the eastern portion of Kalinga (City of Tabuk, Tanudan, Pinukpuk, Rizal), the eastern portion of Mountain Province (Paracelis, Natonin), the eastern portion of Ifugao (Aguinaldo, Alfonso Lista), and the northern portion of Aurora (Dinalungan, Casiguran, Dilasag, Dipaculao)"

"Luis will move generally northwestward and may make landfall or pass close to Cagayan or Isabela this afternoon or evening," the state weather bureau said on Monday.

Luis is expected to "sharply turn east northeastward while moving away from the Philippine landmass. The forecast track is highly uncertain and may change in the succeeding bulletins."

The state weather bureau also noted that "Luis is forecast to remain as a tropical depression over majority of the forecast period and may be downgraded into a remnant low by Wednesday (05 August) before becoming fully assimilated into the circulation of an incoming tropical depression.
