President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday called on Filipinos to actively participate in the government’s “Oras Natin sa Efficiency” campaign by the Department of Energy (DOE) and adopt simple energy-saving practices to help strengthen the country’s energy security.

Speaking during the inauguration of the country’s first interactive energy museum, Marcos encouraged households to conserve electricity by switching off non-essential lights and unplugging appliances when they are not in use.

“We encourage every Filipino to take part in the Oras Natin sa Efficiency campaign. Help us conserve electricity, switch off non-essential lights, unplug unused appliances,” the President said.

Last July 17, the DOE launched the “Oras Natin sa Efficiency,” a nationwide advocacy campaign that promotes a coordinated weekly energy reduction window every Saturday, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., or during a one-hour identified period where participants are encouraged to switch off non-essential lights and reduce unnecessary electricity use.

According to Marcos, ensuring the country’s energy security is a shared responsibility, urging the public to use energy resources wisely, observe conservation measures, and support reforms aimed at making the energy sector more reliable and sustainable.

The President stressed that the government is committed to energy efficiency and expressed hope that, through the combined efforts of the government and the public, the Philippines will continue to build an energy sector that is reliable, sustainable, and capable of meeting the aspirations of every Filipino.

“Moving forward, may this milestone remind us that energy security is a shared responsibility. Let us continue to use our resources wisely, follow energy conservation measures, and support meaningful reforms,” Marcos added.

The President also highlighted that following the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East in March, all government agencies were directed to reduce their actual electricity and fuel consumption by 10 to 20 percent as part of efforts to manage energy use and strengthen the country’s overall energy security.
