President Ferdinand Marcos Jr ''condemned'' Monday's incident where two Philippine soldiers were injured as they tried to stop a Chinese Coast Guard boat from getting close to a grounded Navy ship at Ayungin Shoal.

''He condemns this, the President condemns these incidents,'' said Palace Press Officer Claire Castro in a Palace briefing on Tuesday.

The Palace said that Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Jing Quan was summoned. In Beijing, however, Global Times said ''the official in charge of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry urgently summoned the Philippine ambassador to China on Tuesday to lodge solemn representations over the Philippines' deliberate provocation at Ren'ai Jiao (Ayungin Shoal) and its attack on Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) law enforcement personnel.''
