A Japan Coast Guard (JCG) training ship arrived in Manila on Thursday for a four-day port visit aimed to further strengthen professional cooperation between the Philippines and Japan.

The crew of Japan Coast Guard (JCG) training vessel Itsukushima, headed by Captain Naoki Mizoguchi, were welcomed by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Commodore Noemie Cayabyab, PCG spokesperson, said the visit which reaffirms the enduring maritime partnership between the two nations will provide another opportunity for the PCG and the JCG to strengthen institutional ties and advance their shared commitment to maritime safety, maritime security, and regional stability.

“The PCG values its partnership with the Japan Coast Guard, which has contributed significantly to the professional development and capability enhancement of our personnel," she said.

"This visit allows both coast guards to build on that cooperation through knowledge exchange and stronger people-to-people ties,” she added.

To strengthen coordination and foster greater understanding between both coast guards, Cayabyab said during the port visit, PCG and JCG personnel will participate in official calls, professional exchanges, facility and ship tours, on board activities, and sports engagements.

According to Cayabyab, Itsukushima is on the final overseas leg of the JCG's Fiscal Year 2026 Global Ocean Training Voyage which training mission provides JCG Academy trainees with practical experience in navigation, ship operations, leadership, maritime safety, and international engagement.
