Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla announced that a plunder case would be filed against Senator Rodante Marcoleta within the week over the reported acceptance of campaign donations of P75 million during 2025 elections which he did not declare in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth for that year.

In a press conference on Monday, Remulla said the case against Marcoleta will be filed before the Sandiganbayan.

"Senator Marcoleta is for resolution, we are about to file it already," he said.

Remulla confirmed that the plunder case against Marcoleta is not related to the controversial flood control mess but due to "conflict of interest."

He also mentioned that the cases against Senators Joel Villanueva and Francis Escudero are both for preliminary investigation.

If an arrest warrant will be released against Marcoleta, this could reduce the 24-man senate as it is set to hold the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on July 6.

Senator Jinggoy Estrada is in jail after the Sandiganbayan issued an arrest warrant for plunder while Senator Ronald Dela Rosa is in hiding after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for alleged crimes against humanity.

"That is included in the case that we are going to file within the next few weeks," Remulla said when asked for an update about the case against Escudero.

Meanwhile, Remulla said they will ask the court to discharge former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan as a state witness in the flood control scandal. Robina Asido/PHS
