Two members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) were apprehended in an entrapment operation in Palawan on Thursday.

PCG spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab said the two PCG personnel with the rank of Ensign and Petty Officer Third Class, assigned to the Provost Marshal Unit-Palawan were arrested by the Puerto Princesa City Police Office at Barangay Liwanag, Puerto Princesa City.

Cayabyab said the operation was carried out based on an extortion complaint against the PCG personnel.

"The PCG maintains a zero tolerance policy for any form of misconduct and remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability in service," she said.

"We continue to cooperate with the PNP as the investigation progresses and appropriate actions shall be pursued in accordance with existing regulations. Likewise, the PCG has initiated a parallel investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish any liability under existing Coast Guard policies." Cayabyab added.

Following the arrest the arrested PCG personnel were brought to Police Station 1 in Puerto Princesa City for documentation and investigation. Robina Asido/PHS
