Ombudsman says will file plunder complaint against senator
The Office of the Ombudsman will file a plunder complaint against Senator Jinggoy Estrada before the anti-graft court Sandiganbayan in connection with an alleged anomalous flood control project.
"(It is) very ripe (for filing) already and I will sign it later, the Information against Senator Jinggoy Estrada. Information to be filed in the soonest possible time. Hopefully Thursday, we will file it first thing," Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said in a press briefing on Tuesday.
Estrada had said there is no legal basis to charge him for plunder.
Estrada had faced two plunder cases in the last 25 years but he was acquitted of both.
It is the second time the Ombudsman will file information against a senator. Last Friday, it recommended that charges of plunder and indirect bribery be filed against Senator Rodante Marcoleta before the Sandiganbayan over an alleged ₱75 million in undeclared campaign donations received for his 2025 senatorial bid.PHS
